Muscadine Grape Vines
The Muscadine is America's Grape. Many of us grew up enjoying this delicious southern grape. There is nothing more enjoyable than planting and harvesting fruit from your own muscadine vines. The muscadine vine is native to the Southeastern U.S. and thrives in our hot and humid growing conditions. Muscadine vines can easily be grown organically since they require little or no spraying.
Female varieties of muscadine vines must have a self-fertile variety planted within 50 feet for proper pollination. A black self-fertile muscadine vine can pollinate a bronze female muscadine vine and vice versa.
Female muscadine vines get much larger than the self-fertile muscadine vines but self-fertile muscadine vines produce more fruit per vine. Female Muscadine vines average 50-60 lbs of fruit per plant and 60-80 lbs per self-fertile muscadine vine. We have had many self-fertile muscadine vines produce well over 100 lbs of fruit per vine.
Muscadine fruit is one of nature's richest sources of healthy antioxidants. The potential health benefits include preliminary evidence for effects against cancer mechanisms, so not only are muscadine vines fun to grow and eat but they are also very healthy for you!
